Patient Led-Ordering

Patient Led Ordering for Repeat Prescriptions

The way repeat prescriptions are ordered is changing. For some patients this means that instead of your local pharmacy ordering your prescription for you, you will need to request the prescription directly through the practice.

You will be able to order your prescription in one of the following ways:

• NHS App/Patient Access/Other GP Apps
• Online via our practice website www.churchviewsurgerycradleyheath.co.uk
• Via the repeat prescription letterbox located on the outside of the surgery
• Via post to the practice at the address above
• Via telephone if this has previously been agreed with the practice
• Via other locally agreed routes for vulnerable patients

If you have already been informed that you can order prescriptions via the telephone this will be on your patient record. You can contact the surgery on 01384 566 929 to confirm this.

We will be working closely with pharmacies to make sure that if you aren’t able to order their medication by any of the recommended routes (vulnerable patients) will get support appropriate to your personal needs. This could mean that pharmacies continue to order on your behalf, if all partners agree that this is the best solution for you.

These changes aim to:

• Reduce medicine waste – the way prescriptions are currently ordered means that many medicines are ordered but not needed.
• Give you better control over the ordering of your medication.
• Improve safety by avoiding the stockpiling of medication and preventing medication that has been stopped being ordered in error.
• Saving the practice time – less time being spent chasing and processing prescriptions and answering the phones to queries and complaints.

If you already order your prescriptions online, in writing or via the telephone these changes will not affect you.
